It’s May and I’ve finally got some time to give you my long overdue update from March! It was a hectic month and since then I have been able to catch up with most of my friends in person so the urgency for writing the update decreased over time. Still, it’s nice to show you some photos and tell you what’s been going down!
January spanned 5 weeks and it feels like it’s been a long long time since it was Christmas! I tried not to do so much outside of work as one of my new year goals was to save up but now having written it all up, I think I managed a fair bit!
October kick started with a weekend in Manchester to discuss papers and to get some loving from my boyfriend’s cat! There was also a weekend in London for catch ups, birthday and engagement parties. I also fitted in a visit from a Manchester friend, tried a few new restaurants, and made some progress at work! It was getting really dark here – last Thursday I cycled to and from work in the dark. Those 2° difference in sun angle compared to Manchester makes a difference! But now the clocks have gone back and the mornings are not too bad anymore.
Well, it can’t always be amazing or easy. So to stick to this blog being an honest diary I will just tell it like it is. September was a tough month for me but it was also a month where I have got the most things done! It might not be much but keeping these baby steps in mind will help me build a picture of what I have achieved over time. And yes, I know I have to not be so hard on myself but when you’re in a deep dark hole it can be difficult to think logically.
*Translation: A bit of August in Copenhagen. I’ve not spent the whole month in Copenhagen because my granddad, who lived a good life and to a ripe old age, passed away at the beginning of this month and I took compassionate leave to attend his funeral in Hong Kong. The positive side to this trip was that we got to meet our two newest cousins — a 3-year old girl and an 18-month old girl who were very cute and definitely brought joy to the occasion. In addition, I also had two planned weekends away! (It is summer after all. And I now live in Denmark where summer holidays are a human right.)
Since my brief update after being in Copenhagen for one week, I’ve had a good July! If I had to score it, I’d give it a B+ because it’s been very sunny and the majority of my important admin has been sorted out but my science has been slow in terms of new experiments (which is to be expected when moving labs).
I’m going to attempt to make lists from my choice of places to eat. This will be my first. As you know already, I love eating but I just luuurve eating out. It’s the whole experience I like: the decor (including themed/decorated toilets), looking at the menu, getting great service (more about that another time!), delighting in how the food looks, the atmosphere of the place and of course, how the food tastes! Here are my favourite 4 restaurants to dine at in Manchester and why they made the list (in no particular order): Read more
